Compared to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai is about a third of the size. It was pretty modernized, lots of motorbikes, coffee shops, a market, cool temples and monuments. We had to take mini van from Chiang Mai, but it wasnt that bad, not as twisty turny as the other destinations. As soon as we got there we went to our hotel called Wannarit. It was kind of out of town, super nice people, no food included, beds werent terrible, hot showers but pretty bad wifi. I wouldnt recommend it as a place to stay but it wasnt the worst thing ever by any means.
Once we were all settled in, we rented motor bikes for one day, which was how long we stayed there. I believe that if we had stayed longer than 2 days and 1 night in Chiang rai we may have gotten a little bored, but there is definitely quite a bit to see, yet we were able to conquer most of it in a day with the motor bikes.
The coolest part, was the white palace which is honestly what Chiang Rai is famous for. Thats why most tourists go there, and even though its the only thing around, and only takes 30 minutes, its totally worth it. It doesnt cost any money and you need to where clothes that dont show your legs or shoulders. You cannot touch the building except for the areas you can walk on, and cant take photos inside…but the outside is the coolest part anyways.
